As I get back to the locker room after a workout, I take off my Garmin forerunner, turn off Pandora, and unplug myself from my iPod or iPad. Can you even imagine working out without all these gadgets these days?

Back in high school I remember carrying my cd player around the gym, dropping it on many occasions. When the ipod came into my life, my workouts forever changed. Buying individual songs, creating playlists… it was awesome! Creating playlists rocks for many reasons…
- You can choose songs that are up beat and will pump you up
- You can create a list to be a certain length (creating a 40 minute workout for example)
- You can change your playlist after each workout, bringing variety to your workouts
Current workout playlist: Winter Jams 2012
- Stupid For Your Love by Brendan James
- I Like It Like That by Hot Chelle Rae
- Domino by Jessie J
- You Da One by Rhianna
- Sexy and I Know It by LMFAO
- Glad You Came by The Wanted
- It Girl by Jason Derulo
- This City by Patrick Stump
- Tonight Is The Night by Outasight
Ashley’s Top Ten Workout Songs of All Time
- My Chick Bad by Ludacris and Nicki Minaj
- We Didn’t Start the Fire by Billy Joel
- Sure Thing by Miguel
- P.Y.T by Michael Jackson
- People Everyday by Arrested Development
- Tears Dry On Their Own by Amy Winehouse
- Fast Car (Fugee Remix) by Wyclef Jean
- Bennie and the Jets by Elton John
- Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go by Wham!
- Shimmer by Fuel
I usually end up repeating You Da One about 4 times, but am loving this playlist. Glad You Came is my new favorite, just bought it on iTunes last night! That’s what I love about today’s technology, you can always be adding songs to your playlist and changing things up! My other favorite love is Pandora!! Oh how I love how it knows what I want to listen to, based on my choice of one artist (aka radio station).
Favorite Pandora stations
- Hall and Oates Radio (My favorite station at the moment)
- Queen Radio (My all time favorite)
- 50 Cent Radio
- Lady Gaga Radio
- Fuel Radio
- Billy Joel Radio
- Matchbox Twenty Radio
- Dierks Bentley Radio
- Brad Paisley Radio
While training for a half marathon back in 2010 with Team in Training, I learned that I can definitely train and workout without music playing, but man was it tough at first. Listing to music pumps me up, gets me into a zone, and quite often helps the time to go by.
Do you listen to music while you workout out? What’s on your playlist?

Love this! When I am working out, I am usually doing a DVD and they have their own (corny) music. When I run, however, I have my own playlist that I love! Halo, Single Ladies (Beyonce), Forget You by Cee Lo, Heaven by DJ Sammy, On the Floor by Jennifer Lopez, Firework by Katy Perry, Just Dance by Lady Gaga, Good Morning by Mandisa(my favorite), Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5, Raise Your Glass by Pink, Hips don’t lie by Shakira, Sparks Fly by Taylor Swift, We Found Love by Rihanna, Give Me Everything by Pitbull, Move by Mercy Me.
I am in the process of changing it up…:)
Love love love PYT by Michael Jackson!!
Awesome list Brandi!! Love it!

I struggle through work outs without music. I left my head phones at home yesterday, so luckily the gym near my house has music playing. I’m worried about boot camp today as I don’t have music, so I am hoping the university’s gym will have music that carries from spin class!
I have a Carrie Underwood station on Pandora that I love. I’ve personalized it so it also plays a lot of Rihanna and Justin Timberlake. The Pandora station helps me because I don’t get bored with the same songs as I often do when I listen to my iPod.
I also love listening to P!nk, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, and *N Sync when I work out with my iPod. I am still very much a teenybopper.

Oh man, Teenybopper music is the best though. I am a closet Brittany Spears’ music lover.

Music is absolutely essential to my workouts that are in the gym. Especially when I’m teaching spinning or Bodypump- they’re mandatory! I take a lot of time to create good spin class playlists, even though I know a lot of instructors ‘wing it.” I choose songs that have tempos based on what we’d be doing at that point in the ride, and like to throw a few powerful high-energy tunes in the mix. I’m allll over the place with my music. My favorite songs to play when I’m teaching spin class are: Foo Fighters: The Pretender, Muse: Uprising, Angels & Airwaves: The Adventure, Lady Gaga f. Beyonce: Telephone…. this list could get long.

When I’m hiking, biking or trail-running (or even running outside) I usually don’t listen to music. I just like to take in the sounds of nature.

Seriously, what did we do without all of our techy workout side kicks?! I love my Gym Groove and Workout Mania playlists which have some of the same jams as you. Recently I heard about FitRadio and I love it. The FitFluential channel is my fav!

Thanks so much for sharing your playlists! I’m trying to update mine (http://www.mainelyrunning.com/2012/01/little-musical-help.html) and now have a bunch of new additions
It’s always fun seeing what others are listening to!
