When I was a kid, I loved the thought of having a pen pal. In the 2nd grade I had my first pen pal and remember how excited I was to send a letter to someone unknown and to receive a letter in return. At the end of December, I heard about a Foodie Pen Pal program that Lindsay from The Lean Green Bean organizes.
I was SO excited to be a part of this Food Pen Pal group, both because I was able to put a box together for my pen pal but also because I would receive a box from a completely different person. I had the pleasure of being connected with two amazing bloggers, Lynne from L.G.Smash (who had me) and Casey from Your Daily Dose of F.I.T (my foodie pen pal).
Lynne sent me the cutest box, filled with lots of yummy goodies and a lovely card!
Lynne sent me Love Grown Foods apple walnut delight granola, 2 packets of Justin’s nut butters, Royal Gorge Gorp trail mix, Celestial Seasons herbal tea sampler, and salt and vinegar Pop Chips.
I loved the tea sampler and have had many cups of tea since receiving my pen pal box.
My favorite item in the box though were the Pop Chips!! Holy mama were these good. First off, I love anything salt and vinegar and second, they taste just like pringles. Neal and I polished them off pretty quickly and have even bought another bag since. YUMM-O!
So now it’s time for some details about Foodie Pen Pals…
-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your pen pal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your pen pal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your pen pal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Pen Pals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your pen pal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
*Breaking news! This month we’re going to do a trial run for our Canadian friends. I’m still not exactly sure how it will work with shipping costs and stuff for you guys up North, but if you’re willing to give it a try for a month and provide me with some feedback, that would be awesome! Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa. So, I’m going to keep two separate lists and match US w/ US and Canada w/ Canada!
If you’re interested in participating for February, please send an email to Lindsay at theleangreenbean@gmail.com
-Your full name
-Your email address
-Your blog name/address
-Your twitter handle (if applicable)
-WHETHER YOU ARE A US RESIDENT OR CANADIAN RESIDENT. (This is SUPER important so I can get you on the right list!)
Lindsay will need to hear from you by February 4th as pairings will be emailed on February 5th! I personally can not wait for February! I already have so many ideas for my foodie pen pal (tbd).

I love the foodie pen pal idea!! So cool! And I especially love the Colorado products (and now I’ll have to stalk her blog!). I’ve never had that granola, but keep seeing it on everyone’s blogs. And you know I’m a BIG FAN of Celestial Seasonings tea!
Wish you could go to Blend, Ashley- but I’m sure you’ll be knee-deep in wedding plans in May!

I’m jumping with excitement that I will get to be a part of Foodie Pen Pals this next round. Yahoo! Being from the Colorado area I would say that Lynne did it proud. Popped chips are a fav of mine too…Special K came out with something similar called cracker chips and they are also pretty tasty.
