Jump Around: Leap Day

Leap Year Run Logo

I know everyone and their mother is going to blog about Leap Day today but hey, it is a pretty cool day! (source) According to Time and Date, Leap Year "is an extra (intercalary) day added during a Leap Year, making the year 366 days long – and not 365 days, like a common (normal) year."  As we saw in the movie Leap Year, there are some pretty cool Leap Day traditions out th . . . February Foodie Pen Pals

I love receiving packages but my favorite packages as of late have been from the Foodie Pen Pals program! For the month of February, my Pen Pal (who sent me a box) was Annica from Annica Nicole, a student at the University of Missouri. Annica sent me the most amazing foodie box, filled with LOTS of goodies!  I mean come on, check out this box. Annica sent me Erin Baker's . . . Continue Reading »

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Tower Climb 2012

It is one of the most common chronic lung diseases in children and young adults. It is a life-threatening disorder. Most children with cystic fibrosis are fairly healthy until they reach adulthood. They are able to participate in most . . . Continue Reading »

A Week of Eats

I'm very proud of myself for tracking all of my calories this week, for listening to my body, and for making up my workouts even when I overslept.  I'm a little nervous about how the week will end, since I'm in San Antonio, but I just need to track my calories to the best of my ability and not just eat to eat. Monday went very well, ending up with 696 calories left over due to Cycle . . . Continue Reading »

My Nike FuelBand

Have you heard about the Nike+ FuelBand?  Lets just say that the moment I heard about Nike's new gadget, I knew it would be a wise investment in my quest to lose weight and to live a healthy lifestyle.  I am in love with my Nike FuelBand. The Nike+ FuelBand is an accelerometer which tracks your everyday movements; translating all of your steps, jumps, dance moves, and everyday motions into " . . . Continue Reading »

Wedding Wednesday: One Productive Weekend

My Mom makes the most amazing cookies.  I do not know how she does it!  Last Saturday morning I ran to the post office to pick up a box my Mom had sent Neal and I earlier last week.  My Mom sends the most amazing care packages.  I hope she doesn't realize that I'm 27... I love getting care packages, they make my week! Inside, my Mom had sent a box of homemade M&M cookies and some kit . . . Continue Reading »

Bamboo Bottle Co. — LOVE!

I have a new love in my life... my new water bottle from the Bamboo Bottle Company! This sleek bottle actually has three parts, the glass bottle which holds any hot or cold liquid, the bamboo outer shell, and a plastic top and bottom which hold it all together.  It's fantastic because I can take it apart, clean and sterilize the glass bottle, and then put it back together.  Gone are the days o . . . Weekly Plan: 8 More Weeks

My first wedding dress fitting is in 8 weeks!  The good thing is, my dress fits perfectly as of today, so any weight I lose or any toning made to my body will only make me feel better in my dress.  Sidenote: my hair is getting longer!! Yay for wedding day hair. I've been thinking a lot since I blogged last week about "evenings sabotaging our diets" and have decided that I need to make some c . . . Continue Reading »

Weekly Update- Whirlwind

This has been a whirlwind week, but a good one at that. This week I was reminded of how special life is and that even on the worst of days, we should never wish a day away. Each day is a blessing and the people around us are blessings as well! This week was filled with lots of veggie patties and spinach salads. I am proud of myself for tracking my calories on My Fitness Pal each day but... I . . . Continue Reading »

Tag, I’m It — Get to Know Me

Last week, Talia from Bite Sized Wellness tagged me in a Virtual Get to Know Me! So here we go... 1.  What is your favorite time of day? I am just about obsessed with twilight, not the movie.  I love the time of day when there is just enough light to bring a cobalt blue hue to the world.  It's just beautiful.  My wedding is actually themed around this time of day. Do Your Evenings Sabotage Your Diet?

sabotage small

This morning I woke up at 4:15AM... you read that right, 4:15AM!  Knowing that I'd have to get up at 5AM to go to spin anyways, I decided that going back to sleep for 45 minutes would be far worse than staying up.  Still, it was painful! Spin this morning was great.  I love Cycle Studio!  Our instructor today had us do lots of intervals, which totally kicked my tail without realizing it.  My . . . Continue Reading »

My Funny Valentine

So far this year, I feel like I've spent more time with my school books than with Neal, my friends, and my family.  Grad school and work projects have taken over my life. Oh, and a little thing called wedding planning. As I have to work late today, Neal asked me on a Valentine's Day date for last night.  It was a total surprise, which I love, and I had no idea all that was up his sleeve.  Wh . . . Being Grateful, Even When Life is Hectic

When times are tough or life is extra busy, it's easy to lose sight of all I have to be grateful for.  It's easy to become bogged down, overwhelmed, and honestly, a grump.   It's not easy to take the focus off of the negative, but once you do, it can give your life a "gratitude boost". (source) So how can you shift your thoughts to focus on the positive and to give yourself a gratitude bo . . . Continue Reading »

Weekly Plan: The Health Benefits of Cocoa

It's here... Valentine's Week! (source) At some point this week, you’ll be confronted by chocolate in honor of Valentine’s Day.  Much like Halloween, this week we need to make a decision to control the amount of sweets we consume.  On the flip side though, there are a lot of health benefits to chocolate for our hearts! According to the Hershey Center for Health & Nutrition, recent stu . . . Continue Reading »

Highlights of my Week

Highlight 1: NuGo Slim Bars I am SO excited because my favorite nutrition bars are now at Whole Foods in DC.  NuGo, who makes a variety of bars also has a line of NuGo Slim bars, which are fantastic! Thursday I bought two, new to me, flavors, Raspberry Truffle and Brownie Crunch. With 170 calories, 15 grams of protein, and 10 grams of fiber, the raspberry truffle bar was a gold . . .
