Married: With Meal Compromises

Hi, Coffee, Cake and Cardio readers! I’m Colleen, the blogger behind The Lunchbox Diaries. I’m a healthy-living/lifestyle blogger who loves health and fitness just as much as I love happy hour. I’m also a newlywed, just like our friend Ashley!

I’m so happy to be taking over Ashley’s blog today while she’s away on her honeymoon! It was almost a year ago that my husband and I were celebrating our honeymoon in St. Lucia!

Cory and I dated for five years before getting married, and we moved in together for the first time just three weeks before our wedding.

In an ideal world, I would have loved to come home from my honeymoon and spend our first night in our new apartment as husband and wife, but hey, our future landlords didn’t care about my lifelong dream.

I digress.

Moving in with Cory was so exciting. It’s still amazing, actually. We have such a blast. But one of the biggest hurdles we’ve had to overcome?


Yes. Sometimes I give in. How can I say “no” to homemade pizza?!

Cory, like most men, could eat pizza for breakfast, McDonald’s for lunch, Dairy Queen for dinner and not gain an ounce.

Me? I’ve gained five pounds by simply writing that.

Sure, I’ve made some greasy adjustments to my eating habits, but Cory has made some leafy adjustments to his. We make meal compromises constantly!

But what has curbed weight gain is the fact that Cory and I enjoy fitness, alone and together. We have our own fitness routines, but we’ve run the same 10K every year, complete a Mud Run, and this past November we ran our first half marathon together!

So sure, sometimes I eat a burger and fries for dinner because that’s what Cory wants, but I know how to keep myself in check. I’ve found that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not about sweating the small stuff, obsessing over a single meal, or depriving myself. I thank Cory for that insight! He knows how to enjoy food, and now, so do I!
