Rehearsal, Dinner, and Baseball

The Friday before the wedding started bright and early. I was eager to get up, shower, clean up a few things around the house, and to pick up the flowers for the wedding.

The flowers were beautiful, but to be honest, they weren’t everything I had hopped they’d be.  I had been working with a florist for most of the engagement and she quit a few weeks before the wedding so I had to play catch up with a new guy.  I didn’t want any pastel colored flowers, but what can you do?  They were still lovely, full of life, and screamed “wildflowers”.

I did however LOVE my bouquet!!  It was just perfect.

After hauling the flowers back home, I got ready for the rehearsal, ate a quick lunch with my bridesmaids, and then headed over to the church.

The rehearsal was a little crazy to be honest, but amen for rehearsals.  I had created a pretty detailed timeline of when people should walk down the isle based on the song  I had chosen.  The song I chose to walk down the isle to was a little under 5 minutes long and we had to have all the bridesmaids, the flowergirl, and the ring bearer walk down the isle before I did at the 3:50 minute mark.   The minister’s wife was very pesimistic about it being possible but trust me, it was possible.  Like I said, amen for rehearsals.

The kids in the wedding were just adorable and it made me so excited for the wedding day!

And just like that the rehearsal was over and we were on our way to Nationals Baseball Park for our rehearsal dinner and the baseball game.

For the room, I brought simple decorations including garland stars, LED candles, and baseball confetti.

The room was located on the club level and brought great relief to the crazy temperatures outside.

The actual dinner was absolutely fabulous!

Menu

  • Lemon pepper chicken breasts with grilled peppers
  • Ballpark hotdogs (including topping to make the buffalo blue cheese hotdog, Neal’s favorite)
  • Field green salad with basalmic dressing
  • Pasta salad (which was different than what I had originally ordered)
  • Watermelon wedges
  • Lemon angel food cake

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the rehearsal dinner and were glad we had chosen to brings our guests back to the place where it all began.

First date – July 24, 2009

As we had given our wedding party their gifts when they arrived in DC, we used the dinner to just mingle and enjoy one anothers company.

After dinner we headed upstairs to our seats and watched the Nationals play the Rockies.

Along with our wedding party, lots of other wedding guests met us at the park for the game.  I loved having guests together and having the opportunity to talk to each of them before the big day.

Although the Nationals lost, it was a wonderful evening… and just like that, the day was over… my last day as an Ackerley.  To be continued.
