I don’t know about y’all but I am PUMPED for fall TV to start in a few weeks! I know some people are good about limiting their hours in front of the TV but for me, I just love my shows too much. Here’s a rundown of my favorite shows returning this fall…
Personally, I am OBSESSED with Scandal! If you didn’t watch it last spring, I HIGHLY recommend catching up on it and then watching it this fall. It’s amazing. The other shows are just personal favorites and I’ve watched them since they started.
I am also looking forward to watching two new shows, Revolution and The New Normal, but we’ll see if they stick. For me, I either love the show or I hate it, so we’ll see how these two do.
Now one of the reasons I love watching TV in the evening is because it gives me time to relax, it’s my “me time” (Neal doesn’t like the same shows), and it’s just something I really enjoy having. If you find yourself watching a lot of TV though and not getting your workouts in, then it becomes a little bit more of an issue.
Exercising while watching TV doesn’t have to be difficult though or take away from your TV time. Depending on your situation, you could commit to going to the gym specifically to watch a TV show while you’re on a cardio machine. A few years back I would run every Tuesday during the first hour of the Biggest Loser and then every Thursday during Grey’s Anatomy. Twice a week I had my butt in the gym, burning calories, and enjoying my favorite shows! Killing two birds with one stone, always a plus!
Another great option is to make a game out of it. Create a plan before your TV show starts, connecting an exercise to something on the show or each time something happens. Let’s take Modern family for example…
For these TV workouts you can choose to focus on one part of your body, like abs, or you can do a combination of exercises. The bottom line is, you’re moving… and moving for 30 minutes to an hour! I also do the same thing when I’m watching sports. Touchdown = pushups. Penalty = Burpees. Field Goal = Squats. Commercial breaks = abs. You get the idea. Sports are much more challenging as you’ll be moving and shaking for 2-3 hours, but it’s so worth it.
In the end, if I end up watching all of the shows listed above I’ll end up watching at least 6 hours of TV a week (not including sports). If I turn 3 of those hours into workouts then that’s 3 extra hours of calorie burning I’m getting in each day vs. just sitting on the couch during the show.
So now it’s your turn! Try it out this fall! Turn one of your shows into a workout. It’s a great way to keep your mind and your body focused on your goals of stay in shape or getting into even better shape!
If you watch TV, what show are you most looking forward to seeing this fall?
If you did a TV workout, what would it look like?

What a great idea of matching TV to your exercise. I’m a Castle, NCIS, White Collar, Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, girl. Looking forward to trying Revolution too. I like the idea of tying different fun exercises to things that happen often in the show, that way I don’t have to feel guilty for liking my shows and wanting to watch them but yet working in something other than a daily walk as well.
I think you could even do it to movies. I’m really looking forward to the Avengers DVD coming out in Sept and think I’ll try an “Avengers workout” with that idea. It could be something like: When someone runs like Captain America then run in place. When Iron Man flies do jumping jacks. When Hawkeye shoots his bow do arm lifts with wrist weights. Natasha and her ninja moves, do ninja kicks. That sort of thing. Could be fun.
I love that Cathy!! I think it’d be great to do a workout while watching a movie. Now my brain is storming
YAY you just got me so excited for the return of Law & Order: SVU!! That show takes over my life. I watch it every single night on Netflix, it’s kind of a problem. But is there anyone hotter than Detective Stabler???

You’re the best! I watched every season on netflix. It was all I watched last winter and spring it seemed (aside from my favorite shows).
Hahaha I love that little workout you wrote down! IT’s so creative.
Unfortunately, I don’t watch tv and don’t have working cable…BUT I know this is a great idea if I were to have cable. I’d probably always include burpee pushups and some kind of bridge glute squeeze

I love TV! I only get 3 channels, but I’m excited for: The Vampire Diaries, Glee (now that they’re in college and a little more risque…I was getting bored), New Girl, Parks and Rec, and hopefully The New Normal doesn’t suck. Oh, and maybe 1600 Penn just because it’s set in DC.
