Saturday morning I woke up bright and early, eagerly awaiting my departure for ballet! The weather Saturday morning was just perfect, crisp and fresh with a slight breeze. I knew the moment I stepped outside with Theodore at 6:30AM that it was going to be a great day. After a few hours of work, I got cleaned up and dressed for ballet (crop cotton pants, and a comfy cotton shirt).
You see, last year I decided it was time to start taking dance lessons as it was something I had always wanted to do. With grad school ending in May and my wedding being in July, I knew the fall would be a perfect time to start.
Originally I was committed to taking tap dance, something I had always wanted to do, but you know what… it really wasn’t my thing. Granted I had injured by back at the gym just before class but still, I just didn’t leave the class feeling like “OMG, I love tap and I can’t wait to do it again next week”. Maybe I’ll take tap in the future after I have some other dance under my belt.
As I drove to ballet with my window down I thought how important it is to do something for YOU. Life is busy and sometimes you lose sight of the experiences you want and the goals that you have. Taking ballet as an adult was a goal of mine and something I had been wanting to experience for some time now.
When I arrived at the studio I was excited to see who would attend and how the class would be designed. The class quickly filled up with women of all ages and I knew that it was just the place for me!
As I didn’t have ballet shoes I decided to just wear socks, which ended up working perfectly. Though I’ll probably get shoes, it’s good to know that you don’t NEED to have shoes in order to dance.
A little before 9AM our lovely instructor arrived. She was so incredibly pleasant and did a great job of introducing us to ballet. We spent the hour going through the various foot positions, proper form, and practicing those techniques.
When the class was over I was so incredibly happy. I had finally found what I was looking for, something different, something athletic, something that pushes me outside of my comfort zone, and something that made me feel beautiful and strong. It was everything I hoped it would be!
Although I am thrilled to be attending Fitbloggin this coming week I am really sad to be missing week 2 of ballet on Saturday. You know it’s a keeper when you can’t imagine missing it or putting other things before it.
After ballet I met up with my honey and Theodore for a walk at Black Hill Park in Gaithersburg, MD.
Theodore isn’t much of a walker (yet) but boy did he love walking in the park. It made me think that the distractions of walking him in the city are just too much for him as a 11 week old.
He also got to play in the creek for a bit, which was too cute!
It was really a perfect weekend! This is a short work week for me, YAY, as Fitbloggin starts on Thursday. The next three days are really special for me though as I’m just three days from weighing myself at the end of my scaleless summer.
