Happy Tuesday everyone!! It’s a busy busy week for me but thankfully last weekend was awesome so I’m still riding the wave. Hopefully it’ll be Friday before I know it.
So this past Sunday morning Becky and I returned to Fletchers Boat House for a 6.2 mile run as part of my Runner’s World 10K training program.
Becky and I met almost 3 years ago when we both signed up for a half marathon through team in training. That winter we ran together almost every weekend and had a number of runs at Fletchers Boat house.
After running in Rock Creek Park last weekend with Neal I knew I wanted to return with Becky to our favorite spot for one of my last long runs before the Runner’s World 10K.
Sunday morning when we arrived at the boat house it was 46 degrees and raining. Despite the elements Becky and I hit the trail and ran a 2:1 ratio for the entire run.
Though the leaves hadn’t changed too much, it was beautiful running through the woods in the rain. I felt great, even after my football tryouts, and finished the 10K in 1 hour and 21 minutes.
The run wasn’t fast by any means but Becky and I ended the run feeling awesome! I honestly love running in the rain. It’s incredibly freeing and enjoyable. If you’ve ever let the rain stop you, don’t let it next time. I promise you that it can be such an enjoyable workout.
Afterwards Becky and I got cleaned up and headed over to the American City Diner for breakfast.
I was naughty and enjoyed the “Rudy” which was an english muffin topped with sausage patties and poached eggs and then served with a side of hash browns. It. Was. Awesome!
The rest of the day was spent relaxing, checking out Gold’s Gym (Neal and I are testing it out this week to see if we want to join), watching football and baseball, and preparing for the week ahead. As this is my last full week before I leave for the Runner’s World festival it’s imperative that I get some great rest and finish out my training plan.
Have you ever gone for a run in the ran? If you haven’t, what’s stopping you?
Also, it’s not too late to sign up for the Runner’s World Weekend! There is a 5K, 10K, and half marathon that weekend and you can run any race or a combination of the 3.
You can get an awesome discount at checkout by using code BLOGGER33. I’d really love to see you all there! If you have any questions about the race, training, or weekend please do not hesitate to e-mail me!

Wow ! I am impressed, I couldnt even keep up the couch to 5k! LOL I need to try again…how do you press through training even when you feel like you want to give up? or get sick? or miss a day?

Thanks Lauryn! Honestly, the first thing I would recommend is signing up for a race. Once you’re signed up for that 5K you’ll feel the pressure and motivation to train for it. You wont want to be under prepared for your race. The next step is to find a pace that works for you. Can I run for 45 minutes straight? Yes, but I can run a lot longer an with a lot more energy if I do run/walk. This is actually how I ran the half marathon. That’s what’s helped me. I think signing up for a race really is step 1 though
Those diner potatoes look so yummy- especially if smothered in ketchup! I hate running in the rain (I actually hate all running) because I get that horrible pain in my ears from the cold. It’s like an awful earache! Ick.

I’ve ran in a drizzle, but never when it’s fully raining. I’m sure it will happen soon enough though!
The breakfast looks yummy!
Since moving to VA I haven’t had a running buddy like I did in MD with my running group. In MD we ran in all types of weather, especially since our coach was a former marine who’s motto was “It doesn’t rain in the Marines!”….needless to say I got used to it and loved running in the rain as well!! I haven’t done it in years and probably should, it might really light the old fire in me!! Awesome job on your mileage!
I was not a fan of the weather this weekend- it was so cold and dreary! Awesome job running in the rain- it’s one of my favorite things
Although, I have to be already out running and get caught in the rain otherwise if I haven’t started my run and it’s raining I’ll just go to the gym haha!
