This was my first year since I was 12 years old that I didn’t go Black Friday shopping at 4AM. It was a little weird and definitely reaffirmed my love for the crazy morning of shopping, drinking coffee, eating breakfast with my friends/family, and then napping my early afternoon away.
Yesterday morning, Neal and I hit the road early for Iowa City, Iowa to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes play the Nebraska Cornhuskers for a little Black Friday Football. This is my third Iowa game, and the coldest one to date.
With temperatures in the low 30′s and wind chills down to 10 degrees, I couldn’t seem to get enough layers on my body. In the end I ended up wearing running tights, Reebok fuzzy pants, a tank top, long sleeve t-shirt, Reebok fuzzy jacket, hoodie, my long winter coat, socks, 2 pairs of gloves, earmuffs, a beanie, and a scarf. It. Was. Cold!
After arriving in Iowa City and finding a place to park, we begin our walk down Melrose Ave towards the stadium.
I love, love, love seeing all of the fans and the crazy things people wear. It’s definitely worse when it’s warm out, but fans had some pretty awesome things on this year. My favorite outfits are always the stripped overalls and to see Nebraska and Iowa fans in them was awesome!
Kinnick Stadium is a very historical stadium and one that is very near and dear to Neal’s heart!
Neal has written three books about the Iowa Hawkeyes (Hawkeye Greats By the Numbers, What It Means to Be a Hawkeye, and Duke Slater) making the stadium very important! This is probably one of Neal’s favorite places on earth, so I love coming here with him.
The inside of the stadium is such a beautiful sight. Thoughts of shopping were gone once I saw the field.
It’s also so much to walk through the stadium and to find family and friends. Before the game started we spent some time with Neal’s cousin Michael! We love this guy and were super excited to see him at the game yesterday.
We then trekked to the other side of the stadium and settled in for the game.
Although we lost to Nebraska, Neal and I had a lot of fun at the game! We don’t get back to Iowa as much as we use to, so we really treasure the times we get to come to the games.
On our way back to Neal’s parent’s home, we swung by the outlets for a little shopping! WOO HOO!! First stop, Ann Taylor Loft!
There were so many cute clothes there! I ended up buying one shirt, a black and white long sleeve blouse. After Loft we headed over to Gap, Nike, and then to Reebok!
At Reebok I snagged this winter cap and 2 workout shirts. Perfect for football practices!
Once home we settled in and enjoyed a bottled of Zingari Toscana wine, pizza, and salad.
Did you go shopping yesterday? Do you have a favorite store at the outlets?
Mine is GAP!! I love, love, love that store!

I did not shop yesterday but I love anything Ann Taylor. I even go to the thrift stores and go to the rack until I find something from them (I don’t even have to look at the tag to know…sad).
That stadium is packed! Must have been tons of fun.

My favorite stores are Anne Taylor and J.Crew! I’m so glad you guys had a blast! I’m not a big football fan but I love being inside the stadium. Being in Penn State’s stadium is the craziest experience, you feel like you’re in a city!

Sounds like such a fun day! You hit up some of the best stores too
I’ve gone shopping some years, but I stayed home yesterday and slept in. It was glorious.

I only went to one store- Dick’s. And i got some good stuff. Other than that I usually dont go out into the madness!
I actually did my Black Friday shopping at that same outlet mall! Loft was my first stop and I did some serious damage there! Nike and Under Armor were both packed at midnight so we didn’t even try. Glad you are having a good time in my home state!
It’s so funny to see you guys all rugged up and describing how cold it is right now – here in Sydney, it was so hot today, and my day was spent by a pool in the sun! We don’t do Thanksgiving here (so no post-Thanksgiving sales), but I guess the next closest thing would be Boxing Day sales? They are absolutely crazy, so bad I’ve never been to them before!
I had no idea your hubs was such an accomplished author! How cool!
Don’t even get me started on that outlet mall – I could stay there ALL DAY. I love the Fossil store most, but now that I’m a Reebok gal, (thanks Fitbloggin!) I’m definitely headed that way soon.
