I wish I could start off my saying, “I have done so amazing with my diet and my pre-christmas goals while here in Iowa this week” but man has this trip been tough. I think what has made it so tough is not knowing what and when we’re going to eat and then not having healthy options.
My eating so far has looked like this…
Thursday
-Steel cut oatmeal at Potbelly’s in the airport
-Mashed potatoes, a few french fries, and pumpkin pie for lunch at a diner
-Corn and potato soup with saltine crackers
Friday
-Coffee and a Nature Valley protein bar
-Hamburger and hot chocolate at the football game
-Samples at Costco
-Large salad with fat free Ranch dressing and 1 slice of buffalo chicken pizza
-2 glasses of wine
Yesterday (Saturday) I wanted a fresh start so Neal and I headed to Subway for a healthy breakfast sandwich. I ordered a 6 inch egg and cheese sandwich with tomatoes, cucumbers, banana peppers, and jalapenos.
For lunch, we headed over to my FAVORITE place in town, Comeback Cafe. This place has lots of yummy and healthy wraps and some delicious soups!
For lunch I ordered the Sante Fe wrap which has grilled chicken, black beans, lettuce, tomatoes, and a ranch sauce inside.
On the side I asked for a cup of potato soup instead of chips.
After lunch we ran back home to prep for our Iowa wedding reception. It was such a wonderful chance to see all of the friends and family who weren’t able to come out to DC for our wedding.
For the reception I served a variety of finger foods. As a Texas girl, I had to make some queso for the guests.
I also had some cheese platters and a veggie tray.
And for dessert, Neal served rice crispy treats and a vanilla cake.
During the party I had some chips and queso and a few cheese squares on crackers. I felt like I was doing ok, but then I had a piece of cake with some ice cream and quite a bit of wine (I love, love, love Riesling!).
I ended the day feeling like man oh man have I eaten a lot of rich and delicious foods! The truth is, I love all these foods but eating like this every day is going to leave me mad and discouraged when I step on the scale next week.
We’re here in Iowa for a few more days so I still don’t have all that much control over what food options I have, but I can definitely control how much I eat. My goal for these next 3 days is to eat as many fruits and veggies as I can and to stay away from sweets, for real!
No regrets, just time to move forward!

Oh my gosh! I want that Santa Fe Wrap!
My son made Rice Krispie treats this weekend. He needs to stop doing that
.
I’ve not had subway for breakfast. Not sure if I’d like it or not.
And you’re right, no regrets! There’s a time when food is for celebration and when it’s over you just march forward.

Hey Ashley! I had a blast finally getting to meet you last weekend. Everything was very nice at the reception – luckily, I ended up sharing some queso with Michael and Nick. I would have done a lot more damage – the food was yummy!
Hoping to see you and Neal sooner rather than later. I hope you have safe travels back home with the pup!
That cake WAS good, I did share a piece w/my husband! But, I know the feeling that “I blew it”. Just begin again. Our bodies will catch up with us, and we’ll see the rewards of all the little choices we make each day. You can do it. I know it. It is always good to get back home and into our routines again. Sorry not to say good-bye to you, enjoyed our chat!
Yay for a fun wedding reception!!! Don’t stress over the extra treats this past week, you know how to get back on track and once you’re home you’ll be rocking the hardcore workouts! You look fantastic already so no need to harbor on the past few days!
keep it going girlfriend!
