Healthy Dessert Alternatives

This year I am working hard to limit my sweet and dessert intake. I love sweets, always have, but I’ve really struggled with limiting my dessert intake over the past 3 years. When I’ve lost large amounts of weight in past I’ve limited the sweets, eating 0-1 a week (light ice cream, frozen yogurt, or fancy Starbucks drinks for example), and want to return to that.

As I love sugar and crave it, here are some of my healthy dessert alternatives when I’m crazing something sweet.

1. Dessert Tea

Teas such as Celestial Seasonings Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride can help with a sugar craving.  This tea really tastes like a sugar cookie and it helps to leave you feeling full and fulfilled.

2.  FRUIT!! 

Now y’all know I’ve been enjoying juicing, but there’s just something about eating whole fruit.  A fruit salad can help with a craving.  My go to salad is green apple, pineapple, and a little lemon juice.

3.  Healthy Bananas Foster

I have NO idea where I saw this, but this dish is amazing.

Start out with 2 bananas, sliced.

Add 1 tsp (a little goes a LONG way) of coconut oil to a hot pan.

Add the sliced bananas to the hot pan and cook for 1-2 minutes before flipping.

Flip over and cook for another minute before serving.

This dessert would be awesome with cool whip, but I’ve served it plain thus far.

    I just made baked apples tonight. So so simple and totally delicious. The best part is that it takes 20 minutes to make so you know you have to really want it and it’s not something you just scarf down <3

    I totally feel you! This is one of my problems too. Recently, I’ve found that blending strawberries with crystal light lemonade totally helps satisfy my sweet tooth.

    I always feel like I need a little something sweet – especially after dinner. I’m going to have to try those bananas – they look awesome. With a little greek yogurt… UM YUM!

    Banana ice cream! Put frozen banana in blender or food processor with a smidge of milk and blend til smooth. I like to add a little peanut butter or PB2 to it. Delish!
