You can have all the tools in the world, but if you don’t have motivation then you won’t have the drive to reach your goals.
Before you can establish goals, you must first reach a place where you are motivated to accomplish those goals. I think often people establish their goals first and then try to find the motivation to reach them. But what happens if you’re just not motivated to do the work? Will you ever reach your goals?
So before I establish my goals (step 3) I first focused on what motivates me. Motivation is key!
Are you intrinsically motivated or extrinsically motivated?

We’ve talked a lot about intrinsic v extrinsic motivation in one of my sports psychology classes. Studies show that extrinsic motivation isn’t really successful! Intrinsic motivation is necessary for long term success!

I love this post, girl! It’s so important to recognize what works and what DOES NOT work for us. And to not feel guilty either way. I’m sharing this video all over the place today!

Wow that was an excellent vlog! I found it very inspiring. Everything you are saying is so true. I am impressed with how much drive you have and that you have really made the necessary changes in your diet. I know you will be rewarded for all your efforts and the healthy lifestyle you are living.
I am intrinsically motivated and I now know that the true key to my weight loss (98 pounds so far) was learning to love and appreciate my body. After I learned to love my body and not work against it, I found a deep desire to really want to take care of myself. After all, I only get one body in this life. I didn’t want to hurt myself anymore by eating toxic food and stressing it out with fat, sugar, and emotional baggage. No more being controlled by food, no more self sabotaging and betraying myself so that I never reached my goals. When I learned to love and listen to my body, I also learned what my body wanted in terms of food. When I listen to my body, when I am at peace and one with it, I don’t want to fill myself with toxic junk food, sugar, and extra fat – i dont want to skip my workout. Before, I would always lose motivation for one reason or another…usually my mind or emotions would get to me. Not anymore. Now that I know what it feels like to be healthy and at peace with my body, that’s what I want for life.
Great Vlog (and love your scarf!)
I am an intrinsically motivated person. Although I love to workout with others (love bootcamp) I really need to be in the right state of mind to focus and push myself.
Its when I have a lapse in my workouts (like a few weeks-month) that it is really challenging for me to get back at it, and this is when I realise how its ME who has to get myself motivated to get back at it.
I know that its ME who is going to be the one to get myself strong, healthy eat right and make the right decisions, no one else.
Great vlog! I can totally relate when you say sometimes you just have to make yourself workout, etc. I listen to the Jillian Michael’s podcast (which is awesome, by the way), and she says that often. Sometimes being healthy is a choice… although it is hard at times. I can totally relate to the loving food as well, I have loved food for as long as I can remember and only recently in the past year have I been able to realize that as much as I love food, it is a source of nutrients (not just tasting good). There have been times when I eat so much I feel sick, and I try to think of those times when I want to pick out on the foods that make me feel bad. Doesn’t always work, but sometimes it does put the brakes on. Practice makes perfect, I guess!
Keep up the good work, you’re very inspirational!!
