Late Saturday night I had the urge to go for a run in the morning. Running has always been a challenge for me and not something I usually find enjoyable, so when I get the urge I have to go with it!
I woke up early Sunday morning, took Theodore out for a walk, and got right into my workout gear. As it was pretty chilly out, I decided to go for a run on the treadmill. I laced up my running shoes and created a new playlist before heading out the door.
March 2013 Running Playlist
- Stepping Stone – Duffy
- Carried Away – Passion Pit
- Anything Could Happen – Ellie Goulding
- Can’t Hold Us – Macklemore
- Feel So Close – Calvin Harris
- I Cry – Flo Rida
- Shooting Stars – Bag Raiders
- Sure Thing – Miguel
- Hanging on Too Long – Duffy
- Stay – Rihanna
- Wanted – Hunter Hayes
- Delayed Devotion – Duffy
I started out my run with a 5 minute walk and then cranked the treadmill up to a slow run. I ran for 20 minutes and then closed out with a 10 minute walk. After my Saturday football practice it was just what I needed!
When I got home I made a smoothie using Ocean Spray’s Diet Cranberry Juice (HELLO 5 calories a serving). A smoothie made with cranberry juice is a great follow up to a run because it is rich in nutrients such as polyphenols, fiber, vitamin C and quercetin.
In a blender I combined 3/4 cup of frozen strawberries, 3/4 cup of Ocean Spray Diet Cranberry Juice, 1 6oz container of cherry Greek yogurt, and 1/2 of a banana.
The smoothie was deliciously tart and one that I will be adding to my smoothie rotation. At just 255 calories it’s a smoothie that I can enjoy without crashing my diet. I’ve been known to whip up a smoothie only later to find out it was 600 calories.
I would never have thought to add cranberry juice to a smoothie but the tartness it brings makes the smoothie that much better! I almost always stay away from juices as they are just additional unnecessary calories but at just 5 calories this is a juice I will definitely continue to buy.
My husband also loved the smoothie, which always means it’s a good one!
I can’t think of a better way to have started out my Sunday. I got a great workout in and followed it up with a low in calorie smoothie.
I have partnered with Ocean Spray through DailyBuzz to help promote their new Ocean Spray Diet product. I have been compensated for my time commitment to work with this product, however my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.

Oh good idea on the cranberry juice in the smoothie. I’d been using OJ that had pineapple, but I think I’ll give this a try.

I always prefer to make my smoothies with juice over something like almond milk, but the 110 calories from the OJ I typically use is a little off-putting! It’s just so much sugar, especially when combined with tons of fruit! This juice looks like a great option. I’m going to keep my eye out for it!

My son loves Cranberry juice, which is kind of strange because kids don’t usually like its sour taste. I need to make him the smoothie. He will love it!

Great job on your run!
I love making smoothies after a good workout. I tend to watch my sugar intake, so instead of flavored greek yogurt, I go with plain; the frozen fruit has enough sugars for me!
I am the same way with running, if it hits me ill do it, but I have to be in the mood. I am such a slow runner! That smoothie looks so good

The smoothie looks great. I have not tried it yet but will soon. I live in Africa so not always easy to get the northern type fruits but I love the mangos and passion fruit smoothies I make. Can get all the African fruits so sweet and ripe…when they are in season!
