Without fail, I reach a point each year where I just want to run! Back in 2006, running was what helped me to be successful in my weight loss and it’s something I return to each and every year! I’ve run some really fun races over the years, including the Country Music Half Marathon in Nashville, the DC Hot Chocolate 15K, and the Runner’s World 10K.
Running is a challenge for me but it is also incredibly fulfilling. If you are patient with yourself and give yourself enough time to train, your body will grow, your mind will adjust, and you’ll be running further and longer in no time!
As I’ll be in football season until July, I’m going to miss out on a lot of races this spring and summer, but here are some of the 2013 DC Road Races I’m eyeballing.
Crystal Run 5K Fridays – Starting April 5, 2013
Biggest Loser 5K and 10K – July 14, 2013
Crystal City Twilighter 5k – July 27, 2013
Shape Diva Dash – September 21, 2013
Pretty Muddy – September 28, 2013
The Dash 5K and Doggie Run – November 3, 2013
Run Under the Lights – November 23, 2013
Are you planning to run any races this year? If so, what are you running?
If you’ve been wanting to try a race, what’s stopping you?

The Crystal City 5k Fridays are so much fun! I did all of them last year and couple each the two years before. I’m already planning on the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler and the Nike Women’s Half in April, so I might just volunteer at the 5ks this time around, but I’m still considering sneaking one in.

The Crystal Run 5k’s are great! They’re right around the corner from where I live now. I love them. Be careful with the Twilighter though, It’s been brutally hot the last two years. I’ve signed up and not gone because of the heat.

I love this list of races though. We should go to some of the same ones

I’ve got several races planned for this year (and I’ve already gotten 3 out of the way so far!) including Pretty Muddy Atlanta. I can’t wait for that one!

I was just looking at the Biggest Loser run. I have only ever done 5k’s and wanted to step it up to a 10k. My only concern is it’s in July and could be very hot. What do you think?
My 8-year-old and I are going to run a 5K this summer in honor of a little girl from her school that died in a tragic boating accident last year. It’s a rainbow run where you wear white and get pelted with color along the way. We are both really excited about it! I don’t run often (I usually workout indoors, you know, where it’s temperature controlled!!!), but this is definitely a worthwhile cause. All you runners inspire me!

I’m so jealous about the BL race! I wish we were still going to be here then! And also I’ve always wanted to do the Dog Dash but felt a little creepy showing up without a dog
. I’m thinking of doing the Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon in early June, though.

One of the many reasons I adore you! You can borrow my puppy any time to run a race.
Many of these sound so appealing!! I participate in a lot of walk/runs or just walks (in which I challenge myself to run). Each year I commit to the March for Babies by the March of Dimes, Great Strides (Cystic Fibrosis), Civista 5K (hospital in La Plata, MD), Charles Co Walk for the Homeless, Run for Hospice, and any others that pop up in the Spring/Fall. I look forward to doing one after the baby is born, and preferably with the baby in a jogging stroller
. I want her to be apart of these successes!
