It’s no secret, but I absolutely love key lime pie. It started back when I was a little kid and we’d visit my Grandpa and Nana in Florida. I’ll never forget when my Nana took me along to pick up some pies from the local bakery. For whatever reason, that memory has always stayed close to my heart.
Getting my husband hooked was the next mission! Back in the summer of 2011, while Neal and I were vacationing down in the Florida, I forced Neal to try key lime pie. He had it in his head that he’d hate it, but I knew he’d see the light. We actually did a key lime pie throwdown in honor of Bobby Flay, choosing the Key West Key Lime Pie Company as our winner.
I love key lime pie, but I’ve been trying to find a lighter way to enjoy this favorite treat…. enter Key Lime Pie Greek Frozen Yogurt!
After making plain Greek Frozen Yogurt a few weeks ago, I thought I’d give the idea in my head a try!
- 32 oz vanilla Greek yogurt (I used Chobani 0%)
- 1/4 cup of key lime or lime juice
- 3/4 cup of milk (I used 2%)
- 1 reduced fat graham cracker crust
To start, combine Greek yogurt with 3/4 cup of milk and 1/4 cup of key lime (or lime) juice in a bowl.
Add Greek yogurt mixture to an ice cream machine and let her rip!
***Note — you can still make this without an ice cream maker. You’ll just want to pour the mixture into shallow containers and freeze until it reaches desired consistency. Stir occasionally.
While the yogurt churns, transfer the crust to a ziploc bag and crumble.
After the yogurt has churned for about 15 minutes, or is close to your desired thickness, add in the graham cracker crust.
Churn for another 5-10 minutes and serve.
This frozen yogurt is perfectly sweet and tart all at the same time. Greek yogurt is naturally tart, so when you add in the lime juice it just takes it up a notch. The crust mellows it out and leaves you with an amazing key lime pie Greek frozen yogurt.
If you’re wanting a little more mellow of a flavor, I’d recommend using vanilla yogurt instead of vanilla Greek yogurt.
I love how much you can do with a simple Greek frozen yogurt recipe and love that I can turn some of my favorite desserts into healthy treats.
