Shakeology Review and Results

One month ago I decided to take a risk and try out a product I had heard so much about, Shakeology.  Here is my Shakeology review and results.

On Instagram people RAVED about Shakeology, how much weight they had lost while using it and how great it made them feel.  I couldn’t help but be curious…

Shakeology Review

I always strive to be as honest as possible here on Coffee Cake and Cardio and my Shakeology review is no different.  It took me weeks to decide whether or not to spend the $147.99 and I hope that my review of Shakeology is helpful to anyone considering trying it out.

Ok, first things first… what the heck is Shakeology and what is it not?

Shakeology is a nutrient packed protein powder that can be mixed with various liquids to create a shake.  Now I could have spent a whole lot less on a protein powder, like $120 less, but I saw the value in the unique nutrients Shakeology provided.  Shakeology is packed with various proteins, amino acids, antioxidants, probiotics, and so much more…

Shakeology Ingredients

Now what Shakeology is not is a weight loss powder.  You can’t just take Shakeology and lose weight… that’s just not how it works.  Now I do agree that you can lose weight while taking Shakeology but that’s because you 1. consumed the right number of calories for your body, 2. ate nutrient dense foods, and 3. burned calories through various workouts.

For those wanting to lose weight, doing a structured fitness program like Turbo Fire and then replacing one meal a day with Shakeology often results in pounds being lost…but again, you have to see that it’s because you’re working out, eating healthy foods, and staying within your calories count.

Shakeology Week 1 Review

I honestly loved the product!  I really liked the Chocolate Shakeology, how it made me feel and how it helped me to stay within my calorie goal.  You see, dinner is a real struggle for me… actually anything after work is a struggle for me.  After work, I struggle to 1. not eat a whole meal worth of snacks as soon as I get home before making dinner, 2. watch my portion sizes during dinner, and 3. not snack or eat after dinner.

Replacing dinner with Shakeology worked really well for me because it helped me to control some of my nasty habits.  Now if you go through Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, and Week 4, you’re going to see that SHOCKER, I’m not perfect.  I still had days where I snacked after work and/or ate after dinner.

I think Shakeology is amazing purely because of what it’s made up of, but I think there’s also a lot to be said about what replacing one meal a day, your toughest meal of the day, with Shakeology can do for your weight loss.  Again, it’s not because of Shakeology, but replacing an often uncontrollable meal with a controlled one.

I don’t think 4 weeks is a long enough time to get into a real groove, so as I shared last week, I am going to continue using Shakeology for the month of July.  Shakeology is expensive, and although I don’t know if I will continue it long term, replacing dinner with Shakeology really helped me to see how much I was overeating at night and how it was wrecking the hard work I had done all day.

So how did I do after one month on Shakeology??

  • Starting weight – 234.2
  • Week 1 – 235.2
  • Week 2 – 230.2
  • Week 3 – 230.4
  • Week 4 (plus 3 days to hit 30 days total) – 228.2

I was thrilled to have lost 6 pounds total during the month I was using Shakeology.  I do not believe that I owe my weight loss to Shakeology, but instead to the habits I learned while on Shakeology for 30 days.  This month I learned that in order to be successful in my weight loss I must eat enough calories, workout, drink at least 64oz of water a day, and not eat uncontrollably before, during, and/or after dinner.

Using Shakeology for one month also made me want to try out some of the other Beachbody products.  My husband Neal swears by Power90, which he owns, so I thought I’d look into some of their other workout DVDs.

I really hope that my Shakeology review and results were helpful.  For those struggling with whether or not to try it out, I hope it helped to hear my opinion and thoughts.  Whether you try Shakeology or not, I hope that my review helps you to see how important a healthy diet, regular exercise, and consistency are to losing weight.

thanks for sharing your review and opinions of Shakeology! I think the most valuable thing I got out of reading your review is that it helped you with your hardest meal of the day. I know that dinner/after work snacks/bedtime snacks are the hardest for me. I think I may try to set up specific dinner meal plans ( I have tried meal planing in the past and didn’t do well following it) and try to keep away from the snacks. Great work with the weight loss!!

I loooove TurboFire. It’s one of the only workout DVDs that I own, and I think it’s so much fun (and a killer workout).

Congrats on the 6 lb loss! You’re only 9 pounds away from the 210’s!!!!! So close, girl! :).

Welcome to the Beachbody family! I am so thrilled with my decision to become a coach back in February. I love helping people reach their fitness goals! Your results are awesome!! I can’t wait to hear about Turbofire. I’ve often thought about doing that one, but I’ve been afraid I’m not coordinated enough.

This review was SUPER helpful! I almost need to hear honest reviews before spending so much money on a new product. Quick question – did you notice a difference in how you felt when consuming the whey protein in Shakeology? I always feel a little off when I use whey protein powders vs. vegetable protein powders so I’m just curious :)

Hey Becky! You know, I’ve used a lot of powders with whey protein in them so I really didn’t notice a difference. Makes me wonder how others felt.

Congrats on your weight loss this month! I am a coach too. I love Shakeology! I think you will continue to get awesome results, especially with TurboFire. I just started TurboFire. It is so fun…you are going to love it! Don’t expect to learn all the moves in one day…the Firestarter Class is where its at! :)

As soon as I started reading about your first week on Shakeology, I saw a review about like this coming. Way to use this as a tool to really think through how you’re eating.

Do you think you were more motivated to work through your weaknesses because Shakeology is expensive? I think I would work harder to make the plan work if I invested that much money in the shake, whereas I might give up easier with a cheap powder from Wal-Mart. Although that seems a little strange, I guess some breakthroughs in eating are worth $100 (via shake powder). Losing weight is such a mental game anyway that adding the financial mental game with it might be a good thing!

Awesome reveiw! I also use shakeo, but usually on the week days for breakfast – I’ve never done a whole 30 days straight. I LOVE the new vanilla flavor.

I have turbofire and les mills combat. I am just finishing an Insanity challenge, and am about to begin the new T25 once Insanity is over. So, I guess you can say I love the beachbody programs! Can’t wait to see how you like turbofire! Congrats on the 6lbs!

Hi…congratulation….i admire your strong will and dedications. It will pay off…i am sure…
I will start turbo fire in well as the moment i am doing Jillian Michaels body revolution. I am complete beginner and turbo fire is so hard for me. i managed only 2 weeks and then i gave up. BR is 30 minutes and i can manage 90 percent of the exercise. I dont feel intimidated by TF.i am slowly building my endurance.
i wish you all the best and that you reach your dream….
    CONGRATS…once again :-)
