Can anyone relate to pinning like a mad person but then never making anything from your Pinterest boards?? Well no more… It’s time to tackle some of these recipes!
Last weekend I decided to make some Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes from my Dinner Ideas board. There are actually a lot of recipes out there for Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes so I read through them all and came up with this dish…
- 1 pound of ground beef (I used Laura’s Lean Beef)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 bell peppers, chopped
- 1/3 cup steak sauce
- 1 tbsp steak seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup beef stock (reserve 1/4 cup to use with corn starch)
- 1/2 tbsp corn starch
- Shredded mozzarella cheese
- Potato buns
Start by cooking down 1 chopped onion. You’ll want the onions to become translucent and a little browned.
Next add in the 2 chopped bell peppers and cook down for about 5 minutes.
Remove the peppers and onions from the pan, setting them aside in a bowl, and then add the ground beef to the same pan.
I recently started using Laura’s Lean Beef and have really enjoyed cooking with it! I love the flavor of the beef but how lean the meat is. Sometimes I feel like when the fat is removed from meat the meat will be dry, but this beef does not dry out as you cook it which is great.
After the beef has cooked through, add back in the peppers and onions. To the mixture add in the steak seasoning and salt and pepper to taste.
Next add in the 1/3 cup of steak sauce (I used a spicy sauce) and the 3/4 cup of beef stock. Stir to combine.
As the mixture simmers, combine the other 1/4 cup of beef stock with the 1/2 tbsp of corn starch in a separate bowl. Mix well and then add the slurry to the pan, stirring well as the sauce thickens.
To assemble your sandwiches, add 1/2 cup of the meat mixture to a toasted potato roll and top with mozzarella cheese.
These Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes are more of a steak, peppers, and onions sandwich, but they were delicious!! They were easy to make and Neal loved them! This recipe made me want to make my Skinny Philly Cheesesteaks again.
