I feel like the challenge is kind of going the same way for me as it is for you - maybe not huge numeric progress yet, but each week I seem to learn something new and that feels like progress in itself because I know what to work on for the upcoming week. This week I was able to combine what I've learned about my eating habits along with upping my workouts. I'm trying to really look forward to working out, even if it's a small one, because it truly does give off great endorphins (I get so enoyed when people say that but dang its true). I'm looking forward to making even more progress next week and get closer to dropping actual weight. Perhaps that is what this challenge is all about - not necessarily losing weight in a certain time but learning and creating a new lifestyle that enables you to (happily!) stay fit and/or lose weight.

You are absolutely right that one cannot judge a book by its cover!

I just had my annual blood work done this morning so we'll see what the numbers say next week.

On the lifestyle front, I'm still working on learning to eat only when I'm hungry but I'm still amazed that the scale is going down despite not the fact that I am not dieting at all! I'm down 1.4# this week and another 1/2" on my waist. Yay! Unfortunately I only worked out once this week but after next week, my afternoons will be a bit less crazy so I hope to get in more exercise soon.

This weekend will be interesting as I'm going to a family reunion out of town. Party food, travel and alcohol usually spell disaster but I'm going to practice eating only when I'm hungry.

Have a great holiday weekend!

I hate bmi, I don't think it's the best measure of health. I lost some of the weight I had gained but am right around where I was when I started. I am happy though that I am trying hard to make healthy choices!

This is such a good example of how you have to look at the BIG picture, not just a number! Good job on your cholesterol numbers! (Meanwhile, I'm in the "normal" BMI range, but I have really high cholesterol! ugh!)

I’ve always found it funny how doctors and nurses will jump to assumptions just based on my look and body weight. “Well you weigh 230 pounds so you must be out of shape, unhealthy, and eating a ton of crap”- was totally having a conversation about this with my sister the other day, so true. Congratulations on the loss and getting back to football!

This week was kind of hard for me with some emotional/stressful family issues going on, but I did not try to eat away my emotions like I would have in the past, so I was happy about that. I broke even in terms of weight loss, but truthfully I was ok with that. Next week, I want to continue avoiding emotional eating and workout more than I did this week (which will hopefully be 4 times this week).

Glad to hear you are cleared to play football again! It is so commendable that you put yourself out there like you do with all of your ups and downs with your health and weight loss. I remember you saying in one of your posts something along the lines of... it is easy for you to set goals but the issue falls when you have to meet those goals. I have the same issue. I am so good at setting goals and weekly plans but I am the worst at following through with them. It seems like you’re in the same boat with all of your food & fitness goals...have you ever tried to be more strict with yourself with your goals? Like rewarding or "punishing" yourself for not hitting them. I found when I started to do this it really helped. If I set a goal and reach it (being short or long term) I reward myself. If I hit a long term goal, treat myself to a relaxing manicure or pedicure or even massage for the bigger goals ;-). If it is a smaller goal it would be more like a book or magazine or just time to myself to unwind.

On the other hand if I missed a goal I would force myself to do something I don't particularly enjoy, but something that will be good for me. So, if I had a goal to cut out the sweets one week and didn't do well I would force myself to get up early and go for a run on the weekend when I would rather relax and sleep in. I absolutely hate running. This helped when I was reaching for that cookie to put it back knowing I would have to go for a run later.

Sorry for the novel :-) It just seems like you are such a goal and list maker like myself and this really worked for me!

Used to work in a chemical manufacturing site and medical monitoring was mandatory every two years. I could always expect to get my over-nutritious lecture. That was the contract health physician's way of telling me I was fat based on my BMI. Now I'm retired and working on weight problem. Have lost over forty pounds in the last year and have 12 more pounds to my goal weight. Goal weight is based on my BMI for my height. For one time in my life I want to be at a healthy weight. Can recommend TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), especially their new book. As an online member the annual cost is affordable and you get a break on the cost of membership and the book if you look for them. Both would be under $50 and that's for a whole year. I was on online member for 9 months before joining a local chapter and I joined a local chapter to become a KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) member. KOPS program is not offered online and to be accountable with weigh-ins you have to join a chapter. Never been part of a weight loss organization that encourages its members to keep the weight off.

I think the weight/body fat/BMI are much less indicative of health than the cholesterol/bone density/blood pressure. I hate any kind of health screening. I don't even like being weight at the Dr.'s office. So much anxiety! Ick. So not fun. Way to push through, though!
